The Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology (HST) brings together the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard Medical School (HMS), Harvard University, and Boston area teaching hospitals in a unique collaboration that integrates science, medicine, and engineering to solve problems in human health. At MIT, IMES provides a robust home for HST.
For over 40 years, HST has offered innovative academic programs to educate outstanding minds and cultivate future leaders in biomedical engineering, medical sciences, and clinical medicine. Over 300 students earning MD, PhD, or MD-PhD degrees train side-by-side at HST, with more than 100 affiliated faculty members guiding these students into vibrant careers as medical pioneers.
HST’s interdisciplinary approach to biomedicine leads to stunning innovations, such as the drug regimen that transformed HIV/AIDS into a treatable disease and the first noninvasive technology for observing the brain in action. These accomplishments are only two of the many examples of how HST’s unique culture moves discoveries rapidly from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside.
