The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has awarded IMES Core Faculty Member and Robert T. Haslam Professor of Chemical Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry, Arup K. Chakraborty, with a 2019 Honorary Doctorate. He will receive a Doctor of Engineering, honoris causa, the highest honor bestowed by the school, for his significant contributions to the fields of chemical engineering, immunology, and infectious diseases.

In addition, the honor recognizes IMES’s Founding Director’s invaluable guidance toward establishing “new research projects dedicated to computational immunology and vaccine design, leading to high-impact achievements” in the HKUST and greater scientific communities.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition from HKUST,” the longtime MIT professor stated. “Over the years, I have very much enjoyed my scientific collaborations and interactions with the faculty, students, and leadership of HKUST.”

Professor Chakraborty, whose research interests center on understanding immune responses to pathogens to design more effective vaccines and therapeutic treatments and gene regulation in eukaryotes, will be celebrated at the university’s conferment ceremony on November 8, 2019.
