You work remotely. Can you tell us a little bit about where you live, and what makes it a special area?

Over a year ago, I relocated to Colorado and now live in the Front Range, about an hour south of Denver. My family and I are passionate about the outdoors, and living here has allowed us to take full advantage of the region’s natural beauty. Throughout the year, we enjoy day trips and weekend getaways to some of the most scenic areas in the country, where we spend time hiking, fishing, and snowboarding.

When did you start working at IMES? What did you do before coming here?

Before joining MIT three years ago, I worked in the Office of Research Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). My professional background has consistently centered around grants, contracts, and risk assessment. I’ve been working in this field for 12 years.

Have you always liked working with numbers?

My role includes budget planning, financial analysis, forecasting, and serving as a liaison between researchers, departments, and central administration. I’ve always had an affinity for numbers and problem-solving. Even early in my career, I was drawn to roles that required both analytical thinking and attention to detail.

What is the most fun, rewarding part of your job?

The most fun and rewarding part of my job is getting to support research that can truly make a difference. I may not be in the lab, but knowing that my financial guidance helps these projects run smoothly and stay funded gives me a real sense of purpose.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

My idea of a perfect day starts with camping beside a river waking up to pour-over coffee and bacon sizzling on the griddle. I'd spend the day fishing and exploring hiking trails with my family and best friend, soaking up the fresh air and time together in nature.

What is an interesting fact about you, that you’d like to share?

I’m currently training for my fourth ultramarathon, which takes place in the Arizona desert in October.
