IMES is seeking applicants for tenure-track faculty positions, including the following:
Tenure-track faculty EECS/IMES search: The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) together with the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in Cambridge MA, invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of machine learning (ML)/artificial intelligence (AI) and their application in physiological systems and healthcare data beginning July 1, 2027, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter.
We seek candidates whose research involves advancing ML, AI, or innovative computational methods to address healthcare problems. Areas of interest include algorithmic/methodological advances specifically for healthcare data; using electronic medical records for improved diagnosis, treatment planning, or outcomes; analysis of healthcare data across scales (molecules to organism; individual to populations) with links to environmental or economic confounders; clinically actionable ML/AI; digital pathology and other relevant areas of ML/AI/computing to advance human health.
Appointment will be at the assistant professor level. In special cases, an untenured associate or senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. A doctorate in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, or another relevant field is required by the start of employment.
Tenure-track faculty positions at IMES: The Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) http://imes.mit.edu/ at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in Cambridge, Massachusetts, invites applicants to apply for tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of science and engineering with application to health sciences to begin July 1, 2027 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Established in 2012, IMES is an inclusive community of students, administrative staff, research staff, and faculty who research, work, educate, and learn, at the convergence of engineering, science, and medicine to transform human health for all.
Appointment will be at the assistant professor level. In special cases, however, an untenured associate or senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. The appointment will be made in partnership with a relevant science or engineering department. The position will have equal academic responsibilities in IMES and the partner department. Applicants must hold an MD or a PhD in a science or engineering field related to health sciences by the beginning of employment. While all research areas are of interest, IMES encourages applications from candidates whose research and teaching interests would be enhanced and accelerated through deep engagement with both basic and clinical partners, and whose research program intimately involves the development and/or application of advanced computational methods. Examples include, but are not limited to:
1. Clinical data generation, analysis, and sharing to improve health care delivery;
2. The development, testing, and analysis of devices, sensors, & interfaces (mechanical, optical, electrical, chemical), and their products, to advance health care and its delivery;
3. Methods and modeling to understand the impact of environmental shifts on human health;
4. Deriving insights into human diseases through epidemiological research and mechanistic modeling;
5. Improving our ability to understand, predict, and manipulate human immune responses (e.g., in the context of infectious diseases, neuro-immune interactions, or women's health
