Leonid Mirny will conduct research on the immune system and development of cancer

Leonid Mirny, a Professor of Medical Engineering and Science, and Physics, and a member of the core faculty for the MIT Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES), has been awarded the Blaise Pascal Chair honor by the Ile-de-France government.

Mirny was nominated by the Institute Curie (Paris Sciences Lettres) and will spend his 2021 sabbatical there. He will focus on research on the mechanisms of genome organization in order to understand, among other things, the influence of the immune system in the evolution of cancer. Previous winners of this award include Esther Duflo, Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics at MIT.
